Immunisation clinic - Kikori 2010

Beginning 2010 CDI has been forced to restructure its programs from service delivery NGO to training due to the reduction in oil production. This restructure has caused a huge turnover of staff and the Public Health Program has suffered the most not only administratively, but communities being deprived of receiving basic immunization and safe motherhood services.
Public Health Program is one of CDI’s successful service based program. The program has trained peer educators, Village Health Volunteers, teachers, students, church leaders and community members in areas of Community HIV/AIDS, good Nutrition, Importance of Immunization and Safe Motherhood services and the Healthy Island Concept approaches.
As a result, participants have taken ownership in implementing public health activities in their own homes and villages thus becoming heath care workers in their own communities. Immunization program has been a successful program under CDI Health within the project area until the restructure when OSLPHU took over resulting in children not being immunized for almost a year.
Consequently, a Pertusis outbreak in Omati village, Kikori was reported. However, the outbreak was contained through the efforts and partnership of CDI with key stakeholders. Cold Chain infrastructure in all established health facilities are well functioning and potential stakeholder networks are well established.
